ABOUT DOUBLE DUTCH:

In 1982 we purchased our first Labrador. Purchased from a back yard breeder through an add in the newspaper, Chipper, Chocolate Dutch Boy UD TD was everything a firsttime dog owner could ask for. He had a great temperament, loved to go hunting and was very trainable. However, his conformation left a lot to be desired, and he also had several hereditary health problems. At 2 he was diagnosed with cataracts and he died at 6 from bloat. He did, however, get us hooked on the breed and got me started in obedience and tracking. Three years later we were ready for another Labrador and this time we took our time and waited for the right puppy, Mocha, now known as Ch. Northfield's Double Dutch UD TDX JH came to live with us as a 7 week old puppy. We started some conformation showing but we sure had a lot to learn. Mocha did not mature until he was 4 years old and by the time he was 2 I had given up on this 'conformation stuff' and we had fun doing obedience, tracking and hunt tests. At one of the shows I was watching the conformation judging and the Labradors entered did not impress me. I thought my dog could compete so we started conformation again. By now Mocha was 5 years old and it did not take too long before he finished his championship.

Liking the trainability Mocha showed I started looking for a bitch with a similar pedigree, and so Ginger, Ch. Quailwood Double D's Ginger CDX TD JH, was purchased. She started out with a bang at 6 months old, going WB for a 3-point major. When she was almost 1 year old we went to Canada to the Yukon Kennel Club shows where she went Best Puppy in Show two times. After these nice wins, we ran into the teenage uglies and again it took until she was 3 years old and mature before she finished her championship. Ginger is our foundation bitch and we are having lots of fun with her children and grandson.

I chose the kennel name Double Dutch because double dutch stands for dark chocolate, which is our preferred color, and I immigrated from Holland to the US and I still have the Dutch nationality.

Candy, Ch. Borador's Licorice Nips CDX TD JH was our first black. She came from Sally Bell (Borador) in Ohio. Unfortunately, after she arrived the PRA problem surfaced in Labradors and her sire had produced PRA, so Candy never had a litter and she was spayed. She is now trailfinder extraordinaire for my husband.

The next addition is Copper, Ch. OTCh. Aliho's Double Dutch Gold UDX TD JH, sired by Mocha. During the prime of his life Copper loved to do anything that might result in retrieving. He has done very well in obedience and has multiple High In Trial awards and he was also HIT and High Combined at the 1995 Labrador Specialty in Minnesota. In June 1994 at the Yukon Kennel Club in Canada he was BIS and HIT at the same show. On November 3, 2001 Copper completed all the requirements for the AKC Obedience Trial Championship title. Copper is now retired from the obedience ring, he enjoys making sure that no-one gets lost on our hikes as he always brings up the rear.

Rascal, Ch. Double Dutch Trouble is a chocolate bitch kept from Ginger's first litter to Ch. Withara's Marines Journey CD JH. Three puppies from this litter finished their championships: Rascal, Doc; Ch. Double D's Doctor of Love, co-owned with Michael and Katherine Davis and Midnight; Ch. Double Dutch Midnight Sun, co-owned with Bill and Sharon McClintock, who had a great show year in 1995. Taking Best of Breed at most of the shows in Alaska, Midnight also had multiple group placements including two Group wins.

When Rascal was bred to Copper the result was five chocolate puppies. We kept Ready, Double Dutch Ready for Trouble and he matured into a very nice dog. Ready got both majors at 6 months of age, going BOB for his second major and placing 2nd in the Sporting Group and winning Best Puppy in Show. Ready finished his show championship in January 1998 with taking BOB and a Group 1. He had a great 1998 and 1999 was even better, he was shown in 17 show, took BOB 11 times and placed 5 times in the Sporting group including 2 Group Wins. Ready also finished his American and Canadian CD and he is really enjoying agility. He completed the requirements for his AKC Novice Agility Title at the Labrador National in Cleveland, Ohio. Currently he has his first leg for his Open Agility title.

Next came 'Seven'. She is a black puppy from Ginger's last litter to Ch. Kikibit's Nitinat. She had her first litter spring of 1999 by Beechcroft Magic Man Muddy. The puppies are now 5 years old and Zipper (Ch. Double Dutch Zipper Knows) finished his Championship in 2001 and we are having a lot of fun with him in the breed ring, he has multiple Best Of Breeds and group placements, including 2 sporting group wins and a Best In Show, his sister Cola also matured nicely and she finished her championship with 4 majors. After her litter Seven made her debut in the obedience ring, she started her obedience career of with a bang, taking High In Trial for her first CD leg. She completed her CD title in three trials and won the Novice B Obedience class at numerous trials, she completed her CDX title at the 2000 Labrador National in Seattle and currently she is in training for her UD. Seven finished her Championship title August 2001 and she added several agility titles to her name.

Banner also had her first litter in February of 1999. The sire was Copper and this breeding resulted in only 2 female puppies. The puppies were not exactly what I was looking for conformation wise, but one of the girls just had attitude and energy to spare, so she just had to stay here. Her name is Sassy and she is in every way her sire's daughter. She is doing incredible in her obedienc and agility training. Sassy completed her CD title and has 2 High in Trials and she really likes doing agility. She recently finished her MACH (Master Agility Championship) and we are working towards her MACH2.

When Banner was bred a second time to Ch. Beechcroft Formal Attire we kept a black male from the litter. Diesel is now 3 years old and he was recently neutered and he is living the live of an only dog and loving it.

During the winter of 2002 I had the opportunity to lease a bitch for a litter, Bella 'Windfall's Shadowfax at Forsythe' came to us from Michigan and she had a litter sired by Ch. Belgairn Tom Jones in June 2003. There were 5 puppies, 1 girl and 4 boys. Of course I had to keep the girl, she was just too cute, but we also kept the pick male. Both Caddie and Dart are exceeding our wildest dreams. Dart took RWD in his first time in the ring and his sister Caddie took WB for 4 point the second time she was in the ring. They both finished their championship on the same day at just over 1 year old. Dart continues to be shown in conformation and he has multiple group placings, including 3 Sporting Group wins and 1 Best In Show. This spring added a Best Of Breed at the Labrador Retriever Club of Southern CA's specialty. Caddie is excelling in agility and we hope to have a litter from her some time in the fall of 2006.

All our breeding stock have the necessary hip, elbow and eye clearances. They are owner trained and handled to all their titles. We do very limited breeding, about 1 litter every 1 to 2 years, and pet puppies are sold on a limited AKC registration. Show quality bitch puppies stay here or are co-owned.
